Running Analysis

What is a Running Analysis?

It’s a good question, as Running Analysis is such a broad term.

In short, there are often three considerations:

  1. Preventative running analysis – where there are no symptoms.
  2. Analysis in the context of presenting symptoms – with a specific injury-focused outcome.
  3. Running for performance.

Whilst we typically focus on the foot and lower limb, arm swing and upper trunk movements do impact the lower limb.

Our exclusive treatment approach is the first of its kind, developed in collaboration with industry leaders in lower limb sports medicine.

Assessment

Functional Range of motion assessment detailed through foot – rearfoot, midfoot , forefoot , Leg length discrepancy parameters, knee and hip Range of motion. Measured and compared to normative data.

Strength consideration through foot / calve and legs  – VALD digital dynamometry assessments providing quantitative data for baseline assessment and ongoing evaluation.

Dynamic assessment  with video gait analysis of 4 cameras set up simultaneously – Rear foot , Hip / lumbopelvic  control, front of knee and legs  with consideration of knee valgus/ varus thrust at midstance and lateral foot with midfoot function and strike patterns.

Assessment is with barefoot and with footwear along with footwear analysis to assess functional suitability of shoes  and any in shoe intervention ie orthoses.

In Shoe plantar pressure analysis where there are stress injury and or concerns of centre  of mass loading , asymmetry in toe off / strike.

Its important to note that while we assess hip knee and lumpo pelvic function, this is something we don’t treat but refer to your physio’s, trainers and other health profession focused in this area . I think its important here at PEAK we assess this as to triage where we fit in the treatment pathway. Ie If there is a  significant hip issues then foot issues become secondary.

We also acknowledging that everyone’s ideal running style is different pending range of motion, strength, conditioning and injury history, so where its not broken we don’t try and fix too much.

Often the first step is running pain free and then comes focus for performance.

Let us help you achieve your PEAK!
